- Business Class flight (United Airlines) SYD to LAX: The flight attendant dutifully takes our orders for dinner. I have requested the breast of chicken, Fergus & Ben the rack of lamb and Dougal the ravioli. Ferg & I wait patiently for our dinners as everyone around us is served (meanwhile Ben & Dougal have finished their dinners!!). Eventually the flight attendant returns to inform us that she has looked in First Class and Economy and they have run out of chicken and lamb - arrghhh! I kind of thought Business class would take precedence over economy! Maybe not..... So we had a choice of ravioli or ravioli. Try and picture ravioli in a bowl with crusty dry edges and a white sauce that had congealed........it was disgusting!!
- Joe's Pizza's at Santa Monica: light crispy pizza crust with fresh toppings. Served by the slice. Cheap yet delicious!
- Have enjoyed some local drops of wine. To note: Sav Blanc by Joseph Phelps (Napa Valley) and the Fraciscan Cab Sav from the Napa Valley. Tending to drink a little more wine, as many of the places don't have a "full bar" and only serve beer and wine.
- Mexican diner: recommended by the hotel staff in Anaheim, CA. Comment: you wouldn't feed it to your dog! We have deliberately blocked this eating experience from our minds! Basically it was slop on a plate! Cheap and revolting!
- Stubrik's Steakhouse and Bar, Fullerton, CA (not far from Disneyland): we all ordered appetisers (Ben calamari, Fi crab cakes, Ferg mozzarella sticks, Dougs steak cut fries) - next time we will share one appetiser between us as the main course is served with a salad or soup! We are gradually learning the American eating habits! The main courses are enormous - Ben enjoyed a Rib eye steak, Fi enjoyed a marinated pork medallion, Ferg enjoyed Fillet Mignon and Dougal enjoyed Chicken Alredo. We had our eyes on dessert BUT we had very full tummies! This delicious dinner helped us get over the previous dinner experience.
- Furoro Pizzeria, Fullerton, CA (not far from Disneyland): the pizzas were superbly cooked using traditional Napoli pizza ovens and ingredients from Italy. We again had eyes bigger than our tummies and had a "take out" (doggy box).
- Rockin' Baja Lobster, San Diego, CA: thought we would try and give Mexican another go. We have been recommended the fish tacos (which San Diego is well known for). The fish tacos are made with fresh ingredients and I devoured mine! YUM! Something we found amusing was the waiter telling us to help ourselves to the "Salsa bar" - wow, a massive bowl of warm corn chips and several different freshly made salsas, which you help yourself to - YUM!
