Great times in San Diego

What a great city - fantastic harbour, great attractions like the Zoo, Sea World and Balboa Park and some funky places to eat in Little Italy and the Gas Lamp District.  Here are some highlights:

The vessel that took us through
San Diego and onto the harbour.
A cruise on the harbour and through the streets of San Diego to help us get our bearings:

Plenty of seals and dolphins - some
of which were involved with the
US Navy Seals who train nearby.

A big US Navy presence in San Diego.

San Diego Zoo: A great day out at the zoo in Balboa Park.  Possibly not on the same scale as Taronga but a pretty impressive layout and assortment of animals just the same.
Fiona's favourites - the Flamingo's.

Sometimes, we wish...
Sea World: A great day and rivalled Universal Studios with a mix of good rides and amazing animal shows.  Absolutely worth the visit.

Gas Lamp District: A recently done up older part of town which is now full of bars and restaurants.  Had a few excellent dinners here, particularly at Jim Croce with a jazz band playing in the background.

Outside Jim Croce restaurant - a
great night of food and jazz

So we had a great time in San Diego, staying at a US Navy Lodge only 2 trolley stops away from downtown.  We've now picked up the RV and are heading towards the Grand Canyon, overnighting at a toen called Needles just near the California / Arizona border.  We even drove for a while on route 66, with Mick Jaggers lyrics ringing in our ears!
Will be in touch.
Love,
Ben, Fi, Fergus and Dougal
